What do GH and MTV have in common?

What were my two favorite shows on television growing up?  The answer is MTV and General Hospital.  I could catch GH when I got off the bus after elementary school.  I love music, so to me music videos were the greatest thing since sliced bread.  What do the two have in common?  That would be Rick Springfield.

Hopelessly, Completely, MADLY in Love was originally set in Springfield, Kentucky.  I later found information the the section of railroad from Bardstown to Springfield wasn’t completed until 1888.  A little too late for my book that starts out in 1876.

The location was changed to Bardstown, but Lexi still manages to visit Springfield.

Jesse Dalton in the book received his name from one of Rick Springfield’s songs.  My son had phonics in elementary school, so he can’t spell.  When he loaded the song on my iTunes, he put “Jesse’s Girl.”  I always looked at that title and liked the spelling, even though I knew it was wrong.  I’d seen the video at least a million times.

This same son now owns a record player and has all my vinyl, including the single pictured below.

Wants of the Heart-Coming Soon

My second historical romance is available for pre-order and will be out on July 31st. Wants of the Heart takes place in Burleson, Texas.  The story is set in 1880.  A handsome stranger stumbles onto Oliver Hamilton’s farm with a head injury.  His daughter, Josie, volunteers to nurse him back to health.

Cris Garrett soon remembers his name and that his father and ranch hands were murdered while driving their herd of longhorn cattle up the Chisholm Trail.  I have actually visited several cities that were located on this very trail when I was much younger.

Texas holds a special place in my heart.  My uncle is now deceased, but my cousins still live there.  My father watched westerns all the time while I was growing up, so I had to write a book about this state.
